Sail Away With Me

Gone are the days of only having a colour to work from for your wedding day - nowadays, many couples opt for a theme - country chic, anthropology, away in the forest  - you name it. One of our favourites over here at Ruby and the Swallow is the nautical theme. Nautical shouldn't be confused with a beach theme - think of nautical as the formal, straight and narrow twin, while the beach theme is the wild, fun and outgoing twin.
Nautical basics are really simple. Colour palettes are a combination of a dark and rich navy blue, a deep red, white and sometimes a beautiful beige to even everything out. Nautical isn't nautical without stripes. Horizontal ones at that. Tie everything together with knotted rope and anchor motifs, and you've got the nautical look in the bag!
What are weddings without the tiny details? Those are what make them extra special! To get that added nautical touch to your special day, think fabric ribbons. Striped white and navy fabric ribbons - tied to everything - think ceremony chairs and guests favours, striped straws and roped grooms boutonnières.
