A *chilly* weekend away

Hey everyone, it's Fil here! I spent this past weekend away with family celebrating my Dad's very special 60th birthday! We all made the trek to Mpumalanga and spent the weekend huddled around a fire in the Country House at the Valley of Rainbow Country Estate near Dulstroom
This huge house has five bedrooms, each en suite (I had a gorgeous and huge free-standing bath in mine), two lounges and a dining room table big enough for at least six people to sleep on. It also has a stunning porch that wraps around the entire house, giving you views of the mountains and lake ahead. It was so tranquil and quiet - we had the entire house and surrounding area to ourselves - and with cleaners coming in every morning to service the house, we really did not have to lift a finger.
There were lots of stairs and paths leading off the property which were great to explore and take in - it's quite meditative just walking along a path, not wondering where it may lead to (in my case it often led to my dad at the end of it with a glass of wine for me!).
So what did we do all weekend you may ask? Naturally we had lots of wine, lots of food and lots of chit chat. In between that was a birthday breakfast of mammoth proportions, a soccer game that ended my dad's birthday off perfectly (viva Portugal), roasting marshmallows on the fire and a long sunset walk around the property.
I had a lot of fun experimenting with my new Nikon camera - a lot of feet shots seemed to have emerged - and of course I had to play with the 16 multi-shot function!
The weather was freezing, but the company was great - I'd recommend this little spot to anyone looking for something that's good value for money, big and private! Happy 60th Birthday Dad - thanks for an awesome weekend and the great memories!
