So we already know we are the better best gender, and even though we didn't need a day dedicated to us to alert us to this fact, we are more than happy with tomorrow being dedicated just to us! Tomorrow is Women's Day, a day dedicated to ladies and all things feminine. The 9th of August commemorates the day that South African women marched to petition against the legislation that people were required to carry the "dompass". On this day in 1956 during Apartheid, these women stood in silence and sang a protest song. Led by Lilian Ngoyi, Albertina Sisulu, Sophia Williams-De Bruyn and Helen Joseph, the phrase "you strike a woman, you strike a rock" has become famous from this day so many years ago.
We should always remember the strength and courage that other women showed, and acknowledge the fact that a public holiday has been made to celebrate all South African women.
The Ruby Team has come a long way since we started this blog in January this year, and we really have accomplished so much more than we ever thought we could. Tomorrow is a day to celebrate all of that - to celebrate our accomplishments, big and small, to look back on our mistakes and learn from them, and to change what we still want to while we have time.
