Ruby + Swallow: Farewell Macaroon Cafe ~ Hello Daniela's!

275 Florida Road is the home of the delightful little Macaroon Cafe nestled behind House of Curries, where little pieces of macaroon heaven found their new address last year. This coffee shop is all about, well macaroons, and along with all the other Durbanites, the Ruby Team was so excited when it opened. Anyone who is macaroon-obsessed could visit this cafe to try out any of the incredible flavours, all made by the incredible Daniela Dotan. Macaroon Cafe also featured tasty breakfasts and lunches, and we found this cafe to be the perfect spot for a girl’s tea outing. The interiors were beautifully designed, with a colour palette of duck egg blue and white, white-washed wooden furniture and two comfy couches with scatter cushions.

We are so sad to announce that Macaroon Cafe is closing down, as the new owners of the address have a different idea for the shop. This gorgeous Durban treat was perfect for a quick bite to eat, and to get our macaroon fix! The thriving little cafe had so much promise, and having so few niche shops like this in Durban, it is very disappointing that this one wasn’t able to survive. The Ruby Team decided to grace the cafe with our presence one last time, and say a final farewell to the once-delightful-but-now-rather-neglected store.

But alas, fear not because Durban is now the home of its own Daniela’s! Daniela Dotan, confectionery chef extraordinaire, has opened a store at La Concierge, 12 Palm Boulevard in Umhlanga - and we couldn't be more thrilled. While she is most widely known for her unbelievable macaroons, Daniela's also stocks a range of homemade confectionery including chocolate brownies, creamy fudge and cape honey nougat. The macaroons come in many delicious flavours such as chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, chai spice, pistachio, caramel, and our new favourite: peanut butter and sea salt! All these treats are packaged in beautiful gift boxes with ribbon and tissue paper, and make the perfect gift (or treat to spoil yourself!). Indulge in decadence!
